Dylan wakes up from a nightmare in which a family of three is murdered in a cornfield. He lives with his twin brother, Zach, and their mother, Courtney, on a farm where they have taken refuge after fleeing Clint, her husband, a violent man. The three of them try to get by far from him, but Dylan can't find rest. The nightmares about slaughtered families keep recurring and, on top of that, he is visited by ghostly children who pressure him to watch recordings of other children who end up killing their own families. The film is directed by Ciaran Foy and stars James Ransone and Shannyn Sossamon.

Trivia about Sinister 2

Principal photography began on August 19, 2014 in Chicago and lasted six weeks, with locations including St. Anne and the outskirts of the town of Grant Park.

Unlike the first film, which used 8 mm film for its homemade recordings and snuff footage, this sequel relies on 16 mm film, vinyl records and ham radio broadcasts.

According to box office figures, the film earned 27,740,955 dollars in the United States and 26,363,270 in the rest of the world, for a total of 53,329,150 dollars.

Jason Blum has said there was an earlier crossover project between Sinister and the Insidious franchise, and that he believes it could still be revived.

In October 2023, Scott Derrickson said he would be interested in returning to the Sinister franchise, although he feels the second installment didn't take the right direction.

Director Ciarán Foy found Robert and Dartanian Sloan in Los Angeles during the first week of casting. The brothers, who also played hockey, brought a natural bond that helped sell the twins.

The Sloans are two of a set of fraternal triplets, a detail Foy learned during the casting process for roles written specifically for twins.
