The Seventh Seal

Sweden, mid-14th century. The Black Death ravages Europe. After ten years of fruitless fighting in the Crusades, the Swedish knight Antonius Block and his loyal squire return from the Holy Land. Block is a tormented man full of doubts. Along the way he meets Death, who claims him. He then proposes a game of chess with her, hoping to get answers from Death to the great questions of life: death and the existence of God.
