What Season 1 of Everybody Hates Chris
Set in the 1980s, the series follows everyday life for Chris, a teenager growing up in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a working-class neighborhood in Brooklyn. His mother, Rochelle, makes him attend a middle-class white school across the city, so Chris becomes the only Black student in his class. As he tries to fit in, he clashes with a bully and observes the eccentric characters around him at home and in the neighborhood, such as his father, Julius, and his brothers, Drew and Tonya. The family's financial struggles and his crush on neighbor Keisha make his daily life even more complicated. Chris Rock narrates the story and uses his alter ego to relive his own adolescence.
