Allen Leech

Allen Leech was born in Killiney, Ireland, in 1981. His family had no ties to acting, but he decided to study Drama at Trinity College Dublin to try to carve out a place in the British industry.

In 2003, he landed his first leading role in the film Cowboys & Angels. That independent production helped him pay the bills before making the definitive leap to London.

But plans changed quickly.

In 2004, he starred in Man About Dog, which did very well at the Irish box office. That project gave him enough visibility for casting directors in the UK to start putting his name on the shortlists of major networks.

From Roman Legions to English Aristocracy

In 2007, he landed the role of Marcus Agrippa in HBO's Rome. It was his first experience with massive budgets and the technical demands of American television.

Money wasn't always plentiful.

The series was canceled after two seasons, and Leech had to return to Dublin to work in local theater. In 2010, he was offered a role in a period drama titled Downton Abbey.

His initial contract was for just three episodes. But creator Julian Fellowes decided to expand his role, and the character of Tom Branson ended up appearing in all six seasons of the show.

In 2014, he balanced television with big-budget film in The Imitation Game alongside Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie earned eight Academy Award nominations and gave him a global platform in Hollywood.

The Music Villain and the American Market

In 2018, he played Paul Prenter in Bohemian Rhapsody. Playing the man who betrayed Freddie Mercury drew direct criticism on social media from the singer's most devoted fans.

It was a calculated risk.

The film grossed 910 million dollars in theaters around the world. The actor took advantage of the commercial buzz to move to the United States with his wife, Jessica Blair Herman.

In 2023, he starred in the crime drama The Vanishing Triangle. He played a detective in a story of disappearances that departed from the friendly image of his previous work on public television.

Because the actor prefers projects where the script doesn't offer easy answers to the audience.

Filming for the third big-screen installment of Downton Abbey was scheduled for May 2024 at Pinewood Studios in the UK.
