Brittney Powell was born in Würzburg in 1972. Her father was stationed there with the U.S. Army, and that nomadic childhood shaped her character before she finally settled in Florida.
The camera was looking for her.
She began modeling before she turned 20. In 1991, she appeared in Playboy as the Playmate of the Month for May, and the photo spread opened the doors to Los Angeles studios. But it also gave her a label that was difficult to shake in the era's more conservative casting processes.
In 1992, she made her film debut in The Unborn II. It was a low-budget horror production, where Powell was already proving she wasn't afraid of demanding shoots.
In 1995, she appeared in an episode of Friends as Jade. In the episode, Chandler and Joey become obsessed with a woman who misdials their answering machine. That brief appearance on the most-watched comedy in the world gave her a recognizable face to millions of viewers.
Because in '90s television, a high volume of work was the only thing that guaranteed survival. In 1997, Aaron Spelling cast her in Pacific Palisades, where she played Beth Sullivan for 13 episodes. The series didn't last long, but she had already become a regular in Spelling's productions.
He never stopped working.
Between 2002 and 2003, she immersed herself in the world of daily soap operas. She appeared on General Hospital and, most notably, Port Charles. There, she played Summer Holloway in nearly 100 episodes filmed at a breakneck pace, which required her to memorize dozens of script pages every day.
The industry changed, and she adapted.
Her personal life drew media attention because of her relationship with Verne Troyer. The Austin Powers actor and Powell spent years in the public eye, but she eventually stepped away from big-budget productions to focus on projects where she had more creative control.
In 2018, she starred in Trouble Is My Business. The neo-noir film casts her as two sisters in a story of crime and deception set in the 1940s. It was partly funded through crowdfunding and won several awards at independent film festivals.
In 2020, she filmed The Last Exorcist, directed by Robin Bain. The script required considerable physical effort for the supernatural suspense scenes, but Powell chose to focus on developing her character's psychology.
In 2023, she joined the cast of The Adventures of Jurassic Pet: The Lost Island. Production moved to outdoor locations in Oklahoma to cut logistics costs. The crew used state-of-the-art digital camera equipment to shorten post-production time.
