Dominique Tipper was born in 1985 and raised in Limehouse, a neighborhood in London where opportunities don't usually fall from the sky. Her entry into show business had nothing to do with classical theater or elite drama schools. She started out dancing in music videos and commercial tours because rhythm was how she paid the bills.
She was part of dance crews for artists of the caliber of Kanye West. That extreme physical discipline ended up being her best tool when film casting calls came her way. Before acting, she already knew what it was like to work under pressure on stages in front of thousands of people.
In 2012, she landed a brief role in Fast & Furious 6. It was only a flash on screen, but it gave her insight into how a blockbuster works from the inside. And the bet paid off.
Dominique Tipper is not your typical actress.
The project that changed her career arrived in 2015. The series The Expanse was casting someone who could play a space engineer with a traumatic past and a specific Belter accent. Tipper landed the role of Naomi Nagata after an audition process where her physical presence was decisive.
For six seasons, she maintained enviable consistency in scenes simulating zero gravity. The shoot in Toronto demanded fourteen-hour days hanging from uncomfortable harnesses. But she never complained about the technical demands of the set.
In 2016, she appeared in The Girl with All the Gifts. The shoot was grueling, filmed in abandoned locations in the English Midlands. There, she played a soldier in an apocalyptic world and proved she could carry a genre narrative effortlessly.
Creative control is her priority.
In 2018, she decided that performing other people's dialogue wasn't enough. She wrote and directed the short film Trying to Find Me. It was an introspective exercise exploring identity and roots in modern Britain. From then on, she began balancing her acting career with creating original content.
Her career didn't stop when the sci-fi series ended in 2022. In 2024, she appeared in the horror film One of Us. On this project she shared the bill with Kit Harington and moved away from science fiction entirely to explore gothic suspense.
She has a release scheduled for 2025 with The Last Girl. It's an action thriller in which she plays a professional assassin who must protect her own target. The budget for this production exceeded ten million dollars.
The industry prefers clear labels.
In 2023 she voiced her most famous character in the video game The Expanse: A Telltale Series. The motion capture sessions lasted three intense weeks at a Los Angeles studio equipped with seventy high-resolution cameras.
