Ramon Tikaram is not a face you easily forget, but his voice is the one that really pays the bills. He was born in Singapore in 1967 and grew up with that cultural mix of Indo-Fijian and Malay heritage that later opened doors for him in London. His first big break came with the role of Ferdy in the series This Life in the mid-1990s.
It was the first major role for a gay man on British commercial television.
That job in 1996 pulled him out of obscurity from the University of Kent, where he was studying English and dance. But success didn't go to his head. Tikaram has always kept a low profile, staying away from the tabloid spotlight, even when his sister Tanita Tikaram was selling millions of records around the world.
In 2009 he joined the cast of EastEnders to play Qadim Shah. British audiences pinned him with a character actor label that he would never shake off. He gave a minor character in a long-running soap real dramatic weight through a icy stare and flawless diction.
His career isn't limited to working in front of the camera. Tikaram has built a voice acting empire in the video game industry thanks to a deep, velvety vocal range. In 2014 he voiced Dorian Pavus in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and that role quietly changed the course of his career in ways the general public never noticed.
And the gamble paid off.
Epic fantasy fans know him more for his recorded dialogue in studios than for his film appearances. He has taken part in major titles such as World of Warcraft and Subnautica. But his biggest moment in this field came in 2022 with Elden Ring, where he voiced Godrick the Grafted, one of the most memorable bosses in the FromSoftware game.
Voice acting for video games requires a different technique than film acting, because the actor has no visual support from the set. Tikaram often records his sessions alone in a dark booth. His ability to convey menace or vulnerability with just his breathing has allowed him to log more recording hours than many top Hollywood actors.
In 2019, he put on the uniform of Inspector Aziz in Pennyworth. The series explores the origins of Batman's butler in a dystopian London, and Tikaram brings a much-needed sobriety to it. He took part in all three seasons of the production until its cancellation in 2022, showing that authority roles suit him like a glove.
Almost at the same time, he joined the cast of The Great in 2023, playing General Vanya. In this historical satire about Catherine the Great, he was able to explore a more theatrical and comic side. Because Tikaram knows that to survive in the British industry, you have to jump from period drama to science fiction without asking awkward questions.
Constant work is his only religion.
In 2024, he took part in the series Brassic, playing Terence McCann, a role that demanded a different physical energy from his previous work. Filming for his scenes was concentrated into just three weeks due to his voice-over schedule. Tikaram charges a voice session fee that exceeds 1,500 euros under standard contracts for major interactive entertainment productions.
