Ed Quinn stands nearly six feet six inches tall, and that shapes every shot. In the 1990s, he walked the runways of Milan and Paris before realizing his place was in front of a fiction camera. His classic leading-man look opened doors, but it was his education at Berkeley that helped him survive the Hollywood studio system.
He studied history and graduated with a pragmatic view of show business. Before the spotlight, there was music. Quinn spent years on the guitar and took lessons from Joe Satriani, a detail that explains the almost military discipline he brings to his shoots. He was part of bands like Mad Theory and Scattergood, where rock was the absolute priority.
And his luck changed in 1999.
He landed a role in the series Young Americans after shooting commercials in Europe. It was his first real introduction to the Los Angeles industry. From then on, he took on smaller jobs until the fantasy genre came knocking.
In 2006, he joined the cast of Eureka to play Nathan Stark. His character was a brilliant, arrogant scientist, which helped him move away from the one-note action hero image. The series drew millions of viewers on Syfy and made his face memorable to international audiences.
He shot 31 episodes before leaving the production over creative differences.
He later appeared in True Blood and Revenge. Quinn often plays men of authority or with dark secrets hiding behind a perfect smile. In 2016, he joined 2 Broke Girls, bringing a comedic counterpoint that few expected from an actor of his stature. But the project that truly demanded all his energy was still to come.
The role of Hunter Franklin in The Oval came his way in 2019. He plays the President of the United States in a drama packed with excess and constant plot twists. It's a demanding job because Tyler Perry's production machine runs at a pace unusual for the American industry.
They shoot entire episodes in just a couple of days.
This pace forces Quinn to memorize massive blocks of text with barely any room for error. In 2023, he appeared in the film One True Loves alongside Phillipa Soo and Simu Liu. The shoot took place mainly on locations in North Carolina with a very tight production schedule.
The production of the fourth season of The Oval had an estimated budget of 20 million dollars to cover filming costs at studios in Atlanta.
