Mud before the carpet

Ersin Arıcı arrived in Istanbul to study International Trade but ended up hooked on the city's theater stages. His roots in Şanlıurfa, in southeastern Turkey, are far from the spotlight of the big productions he has starred in since 2024. There was no chance discovery in a café and no lucky advertising break.

During his university years he discovered that business management didn't interest him in the slightest. So he decided to train at the Karakterölye acting workshop to understand how characters are built from the ground up. The first few years were slow, however, limited to small roles in local stage productions and brief television appearances.

The theater was his winter quarters.

In 2015 he appeared in the series Tabula Rosa, and a year later in Familya. These were bread-and-butter jobs that helped him refine a technique he had not yet found the right vehicle to showcase. Arıcı was not looking to be the traditional leading man of Turkish industry but a character actor able to disappear behind grime or drama.

The turning point in 2021

His real break came when director Can Ulkay cast him in the Netflix film Paper Lives in 2021. In it he played Gonzales, a young man who survives by collecting cardboard on the streets of Istanbul alongside Çağatay Ulusoy. It was a physically demanding role with a vulnerability that broke away from the polished image of his earlier commercial productions.

There, audiences stopped seeing a supporting player and started seeing a serious actor.

That same 2021, he took part in Yakamoz S-245, a science fiction series that expanded the universe of Into the Night. In this project he proved he could adapt to international production schedules without losing his natural style. Although the genre was different, his method remained the same: working from silence and observation.

But the big leap in scale came in 2022 with the premiere of Yalı Çapkını.

His role as Abidin in this Star TV series gave him massive exposure in more than thirty countries. The character, a loyal and reserved right-hand man, connected with audiences through his chemistry with the rest of the cast and his ability to convey emotion without big monologues. The series reached record-breaking ratings in Turkey during its first season and cemented him in viewers' collective memory.

Reality and fiction in 2024

And the gamble paid off.

Her professional relationship with co-star Beril Pozam spilled beyond the screen during the long months of filming between 2022 and 2024. What began as a work collaboration became an engagement that Turkish media followed closely. But Arıcı always kept a low profile about his private life to protect his professional image.

In August 2024, the couple held their wedding in a private ceremony in the town of Dalyan. The event brought together much of the technical and artistic team behind Yalı Çapkını, marking the close of a key personal chapter. The wedding became one of the most talked-about social events of the year in Turkey's audiovisual industry.

Ersin Arıcı's career today is measured by the solidity of his choices rather than the number of minutes on screen. In 2022 he also appeared in the film No te vayas (Kal), sharing the bill with Dilan Çiçek Deniz. He is an actor who prefers projects where the script allows long silences and glances that say more than dialogue.

His contract with the production company OGM Pictures wrapped filming of the third season of his main series, with a per-episode salary set according to industry standards in 2024.
