Grant Show arrived in Los Angeles with a square jaw and flawless hair. In 1992, he pulled on a leather jacket to play Jake Hanson in Melrose Place. That role was more than just a young actor's job. The show defined the television style of a decade and turned him into a face pinned to millions of teenagers' bedroom walls.
But fame in the nineties came at a high price.
The actor, born in Detroit in 1962, spent years trying to get casting directors to see more than a textbook heartthrob. In 1997, he decided to leave the most famous apartment building on television. He was looking for projects with more dramatic weight and less promotional baggage.
And the bet only paid off partially.
His exit from the Aaron Spelling series took him straight to the stage. He performed on Broadway in 1999 in The Rainmaker. There, he sought the respect that television had systematically denied him.
During the first decade of the 21st century, he took supporting roles in shows such as Six Feet Under and Dirt. They weren't leading roles. But they helped him pay the bills as the shine of his youth faded into maturity.
Because in Hollywood, getting older is a double-edged sword for men who built their careers on their looks.
In 2013, he regained visibility thanks to Devious Maids. He played Spence Westmore for three years with the ease that only years of experience bring. He was no longer the guy on the motorcycle who charmed the neighbors.
He held his own in an industry that devours yesterday's idols.
The year 2017 brought the project that let him come full circle in his career. The CW network decided to revive Dynasty, and Show was chosen to take over the role of Blake Carrington. He was no longer the rebellious young man looking for his place. Now he was the man who pulled the strings of money and power from an office.
It was an exercise in professional survival.
He played patriarch Blake Carrington for five full seasons, until the series ended in 2022. During filming, he worked alongside a new generation of actors who hadn't even been born when he was already a global star.
After that chapter closed, the actor cut back on his public appearances. He focused on his family life in California with his wife Katherine LaNasa. In 2024, he took part in low-budget independent projects, looking for characters far from the glamour of the studios.
In 2025, he settled permanently on a rural property in California valued at $2.3 million.
