From New Orleans Ballet to the Spotlight of Hollywood

Katherine LaNasa didn't chase movies desperately. At age 12, her only obsession was classical ballet on the streets of New Orleans. She won a scholarship to the North Carolina School of the Arts and ended up dancing professionally with the San Francisco Ballet under a Spartan discipline.

But dance has a very cruel biological expiration date. In 1989, she helped choreograph some scenes in the movie Catchfire. There she met Dennis Hopper, and they married shortly after. That encounter turned her from technical dance into an acting career in front of the camera that has now lasted three decades.

The transition was slow and filled with small roles. During the nineties, she appeared in shows like Seinfeld or Touched by an Angel. They were paycheck jobs that helped her understand how a professional shoot works. Because the language of television has nothing in common with the discipline of the stage.

The industry was slow to see her potential for dark comedy.

Success in Political Satire and Ensemble Drama

In 2012, the project that changed her standing in the industry arrived. She played Rose-Bertram in The Campaign. She shared the screen with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in a parody of American elections. The movie earned more than $100 million at the global box office and gave her a visibility she had never had before.

That same year, she shot Jayne Mansfield's Car under the direction of Billy Bob Thornton. The cast included big names such as Robert Duvall and John Hurt. It was a complex shoot in Georgia that demanded a very specific dramatic restraint. Critics praised her ability not to be overshadowed by the veterans in the group.

And that's how she began landing one cable TV project after another, with far more complex celebrities.

In 2014, she starred in Satisfaction for USA Network. Her character was Adriana, a woman who ran a luxury escort service with absolute coolness. The series stayed on the air for two seasons before its final cancellation due to a lack of mass audiences.

You don't always win the ratings war.

Maturing in Streaming and Production Figures

Between 2017 and 2018, she took part in Imposters, bringing the cunning Sally to life. But it was in 2020 that she stepped into the role of Gloria Grandbilt for the series Katy Keene. The shoot took place on real locations in New York, and she played a legend of the fashion industry. The production was canceled after airing 13 episodes due to logistical costs.

Between 2019 and 2023, she worked steadily on Truth Be Told for Apple TV+. She played Noa Havilland across 24 episodes of the series. The budget per episode for these productions often exceeds $6 million, which allows movie-level technical standards on the small screen.

In 2023, she joined the cast of the movie The Hill. It is a biographical drama about baseball player Rickey Hill, in which she plays Helen Hill. The film premiered in August that year and earned 7.6 million dollars in its opening weekend in U.S. theaters.

Katherine LaNasa lives in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Grant Show. In 2023, she appeared as a guest star in the series The Rookie, in the episode titled Daddy Cop, playing the role of Bernadette. The syndication deal for this series guarantees its broadcast in more than 100 countries.
