Hermione Norris

Hermione Norris went to the audition for Cold Feet in 1996 without knowing that the role of Karen Marsden would follow her for decades. She wasn't after mass fame. Before that, she trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and honed her craft in classical theater.

And it worked.

Her portrayal of an upper-middle-class woman trapped in a conventional marriage connected with millions of British viewers. The show's success forced the actress to deal with a level of public attention she has always tried to avoid off set. The press was after the star, but she preferred to focus on the rigor of the script.

Coldness as a work tool

In 2002, she took on the challenge of Wire in the Blood alongside Robson Green. The role of Detective Inspector Carol Jordan demanded complete restraint. But it was in 2006 that her career turned toward pure espionage thrillers when she joined the cast of Spooks.

She played Ros Myers for several seasons.

She won the Best Actress award at the Crime Thriller Awards in 2008 for this role. Critics praised her ability to convey authority without raising her voice. Norris prefers to work from stillness and minimal gestures, because she understands the camera captures intention better than overacting.

Maturing in Family Drama

She returned to the world of Cold Feet in 2016 for a new chapter that lasted until 2020. During this period she balanced dramatic comedy with darker projects such as Innocent in 2018. Her ability to hold long close-ups became her greatest asset in British television.

In 2019 she joined the cast of Luther alongside Idris Elba.

Her role as psychiatrist Vivien Lake revealed a disturbing side that audiences didn't expect. In 2022, she joined the series Riches, playing Maureen Dawson (the right hand of a powerful family). She signed a contract to appear in six episodes of this ITVX production, which explored the dynamics of corporate power.

For the shoot of The Teacher in 2024, she moved to Budapest. The production of this series for Channel 5 had a tight budget and an intensive six-week shooting schedule. Norris filmed most of her scenes in office interiors and urban locations in the Hungarian capital.
