Kaori Maeda was born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1996, and her entry into the Japanese voice acting industry was no fluke. In 2016, she won the Voice Artist 7 audition organized by the Amuse agency. That victory opened the doors to an extremely competitive field, where her 146 cm height quickly became a footnote next to her power at the microphone.
And she did it with a determination far beyond her years.
In 2017, she landed her first major role as Selka in Sword Art Online: Alicization. But the real turning point came when she joined the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club universe to play Shizuku Osaka. This project demanded not only acting ability but also singing and dancing skills on real stages in front of thousands of people.
The physical demands of Love Live! tours tested her stamina for years. But Maeda used that exposure to broaden her range and move away from purely sweet roles. Her voice has a metallic sheen that suits characters with hidden depths or a heavier emotional load.
In 2021, her career took a major leap forward thanks to Uma Musume: Pretty Derby. She played Nice Nature, a character who struck a chord in Japanese pop culture with her resigned personality and her constant third-place finishes in races. The popularity of the video game and anime greatly increased her presence on radio programs and at specialized events.
It was a risky bet that turned into a massive hit.
Her peers officially recognized her in March 2023. At the 17th Seiyu Awards, Kaori Maeda received the award for Best Supporting Actress. This honor confirmed that her career no longer relied solely on idol multimedia franchises but on her pure acting skill.
That same year, she launched her solo singing career under the Lantis label. In March 2023, she released her first EP, titled Hikatta Coin ga Shimesu Kata. The lead track served as the opening theme for Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement, where she also voiced the protagonist, Mitsuha Yamano.
Maeda's work pace did not slow down after the awards. In 2024, she took part in Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, voicing Haruka Hanabishi, known as Magia Magenta. The role was a complete contrast to her earlier work because of the series' satirical and adult tone.
Official recognition took seven years to arrive.
For the summer season of 2024, the actress wrapped up her role in 2.5 Dimensional Seduction as Risa Midorikawa. The series was produced at J.C.Staff studios under the direction of Hideki Okamoto. The recording contract was signed for a full season of 24 episodes, with no preferred option for immediate renewal.
