The Casting That Broke the School

Miyu Tomita won the 2014 Anison Next Generation competition when she was only fourteen years old. It was a quick move by the Amuse agency to sign young talent before she finished high school in Saitama.

Her first major role came in 2016 with Aikatsu Stars!, where she played Yume Nijino. It was no easy job, since she had to combine voice acting with demanding musical work that required extra hours in recording studios in Tokyo.

And she made it happen.

But her real trial by fire came in 2017. The industry was looking for a voice capable of conveying the mix of innocence and horror needed to star in Made in Abyss as Riko.

That project called for realistic screams of pain and vocal stamina that few professionals her age could deliver at the time. Tomita avoided the usual habits of beginner voice actresses and opted for a raw performance that caught the attention of veteran casting directors.

The transition to mature vocals

In 2019, she decided it was time to diversify her income and signed with the record label Nippon Columbia. Her first single, Present Moment, opened the series Houkago Saikoro Club, where she also voiced one of the main characters.

Music was never a whim.

That same year, she worked on We Never Learn, playing Rizu Ogata. It was a necessary change of pace to move away from purely childlike roles and into the youth romantic comedy genre that dominates the Japanese market.

In 2020, she joined the cast of Kaguya-sama: Love is War to bring Miko Iino to life (a character with extreme moral rigidity who required a dry, authoritative tone). But the real challenge wasn't the tone; it was keeping the character consistent across the three seasons that followed.

Many voice actors get stuck in a single type of role after an early hit. Tomita chose to take supporting roles in cult series such as Dorohedoro, where she voiced Ebisu in 2020, to sharpen her ability to improvise comedy in absurd situations.

The Leap to Big Franchises

Her official entry into the world of giant robots came in 2022. She landed the role of Miorine Rembran in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, one of Sunrise's most ambitious productions of the last decade.

Playing Miorine meant handling a script full of technical terminology and complex political tensions. The pay per episode on these big productions is usually higher, but the pressure from Gundam fans is a factor that burns out many young professionals.

She kept up the pace of work without canceling recording sessions due to health issues.

In 2023, she took part in The Dreaming Boy is a Realist and continued expanding her personal discography with new songs that reached modest but steady positions on the Oricon charts. She avoided social media controversies and kept a low profile, focusing exclusively on her performance in the recording booth.

By 2024, her schedule already included high-budget video game roles and radio show appearances focused on the entertainment industry. In total, her official career record listed more than seventy different celebrities in barely a decade of uninterrupted professional work.

Her latest sales figures for her third studio album confirmed that her fan base remains loyal despite fierce competition in the singing seiyuu sector. In December 2024, she finished recording dialogue for three animation projects slated for the next fiscal cycle.
