Synopsis of Himouto! Umaru-chan

Umaru Doma is a high school student who, on the outside, seems like a model girl. Everything changes when she crosses her front door: there she puts on a hamster-shaped hood and turns into a lazy otaku who lives on junk food. Her older brother, Taihei, takes care of the housework while she indulges in her hobbies. The series portrays this everyday double life, with the heroine trying to keep her flawless image in front of her friends, Nana Ebina and Kirie Motoba, and her self-proclaimed rival, Sylphinford Tachibana. It is a Japanese production directed by Masahiko Ohta and aired on ABC TV, with Aimi Tanaka as one of its main voice actors.

Trivia about Himouto! Umaru-chan

In February 2026, series creator Sankaku Head announced that he would stop weekly publication due to declining health and move to a monthly schedule. However, the decision affects only the manga and does not confirm a third season of the anime.
The manga spin-off "Himouto! Umaru-chan G" was serialized between November 2017 and April 2018, following the second TV season, "Himouto! Umaru-chan R".
On October 1, 2026, Sankaku Head published "Himouto! Umaru-chan 100," a 16-page one-shot in Young Jump+, the franchise's first new work since the 2018 spin-off.
In 2025, Sankaku Head explained that Umaru was inspired by his younger sister, who died of a rare illness while the manga was still being published.
