Synopsis of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas

Athena and Hades, lord of the Underworld, clash in a battle that repeats every two hundred years. The story takes place during the holy war of the 18th century, years before the events of the popular TV series Saint Seiya. Alone, an orphaned Italian boy, watches his world turn upside down when the new Holy War breaks out. His best friend, Tenma, is an energetic kid who will soon discover a power within him. Both get caught up in events affecting the gods, and the series revolves around how they face that conflict.

«When the painting overtakes the sky, the world will come to an end.»

Trivia about Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas

The anime adaptation was produced as 26 OVAs of about 30 minutes each, divided into two seasons of 13 episodes, and author Shiori Teshirogi wrote some new scenes to expand the manga.
In May 2013, the series' official account confirmed that TMS Entertainment had no plans to produce a third season.
TMS executives explained at AnimeJapan 2016 that they needed sufficient success in Japan to consider continuing production, although the adaptation had left the manga incomplete.
Weak Japanese sales of the home releases were linked to the indefinite suspension, but TMS did not officially disclose a sales figure or announce a formal cancellation.
Spanish distributor Selecta Visión reported that TMS blamed the lack of a continuation on limited success in Japan, even though the series performed better in Latin America.
