Katie Cassidy did not grow up under the protective wing of her father. David Cassidy was a worldwide star, but their relationship was intermittent and often nonexistent. In 1986, Katherine was born in Los Angeles, and her mother, model Sherry Williams, made sure she stayed away from the noise of early fame.
The genes were unavoidable.
She made her television debut with a small role on 7th Heaven back in 2005. But horror films called her first. In 2006, she starred in When a Stranger Calls and the remake of Black Christmas. Those shoots taught her to scream with technique and to understand that genre films pay the bills fast.
In 2007, she joined Supernatural to play Ruby. Fans didn't take well to the later change of actress, but her version of the demon left a trace of necessary coldness in the plot. Then came Gossip Girl in 2010, where she played Juliet Sharp, a villain seeking revenge on New York's Upper East Side.
Then came the black leather.
The premiere of Arrow in 2012 changed her career. For eight seasons, she brought Laurel Lance to life. She had to train in martial arts for months so the action scenes would look convincing on screen. Filming the series in Vancouver meant 14-hour days in the constant rain of British Columbia.
And the gamble paid off.
Her character died and was resurrected in different versions of the DC Comics multiverse. That stage allowed her to explore different registers without leaving the same film set. But the physical toll of series with 22 episodes per season is real, so she began looking for gaps for smaller projects, such as the film The Scribbler in 2014.
In 2020, she decided that acting wasn't enough. She directed the episode titled Leap of Faith in the show's final season. It was her first real experience leading a technical crew of more than a hundred people coordinated at the same time.
Beyond the sets, she launched a fashion and lifestyle blog that she personally managed for years. In 2021, she moved into the NFT market with a digital art collection based on her own image. She was one of the first actresses of her generation to sell this type of digital asset on specialized platforms.
The independent film industry brought her back for mid-budget thrillers. In 2022, she took part in the espionage film Agent Game. Filming took place mainly in the state of Georgia, with a cast that included Mel Gibson and Dermot Mulroney.
In 2023, she starred in A Cup of Love, a production shot on location in Europe. The film was distributed directly to digital platforms and international television markets. The production contract stipulated a shooting schedule of just three weeks on location.
