Maddie Phillips

The Discipline Behind the Teen Mask

Maddie Phillips was born in Vancouver in 1994 but spent much of her childhood in Perth, Australia. She studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art because she wanted to understand the craft from a purely technical standpoint. There she learned to control her body and voice before facing her first professional audition.

Her official debut came in 2013 with the film If I Had Wings. It was a small role.

But it helped casting directors of series shot in Canada take notice of her. For years she landed one-off episodic roles in productions such as Supernatural and Lucifer. They weren't glamorous jobs, but they allowed her to build up the filming hours that would prove essential for what came next.

And then came the chance to lead a project of her own.

The Contract with the Algorithm

In 2020, Netflix premiered Teenage Bounty Hunters. Phillips played Sterling Wesley alongside Anjelica Bette Fellini. The series blended raunchy comedy with religious dilemmas in the American South. Phillips proved she could carry the narrative weight of a big-budget production without missing a beat.

The show's cancellation after ten episodes was a hard blow for specialist critics. But the industry already had her on its radar.

In 2021, she worked on the film Four Walls and appeared in the short The Room. Phillips looked for projects with uncomfortable edges in the script. She didn't want to be the girl next door forever.

It was a smart move.

The Tactical Manipulation in Gen V

Her definitive breakthrough came in 2023 with the premiere of Gen V. In this project she played Cate Dunlap in the The Boys franchise. Her character can manipulate minds through physical contact, and that demanded a very specific acting coldness.

Production on the second season was set for 2024 after several logistical delays. Phillips stayed committed to the bloody, satirical tone of Amazon's original series. Because audiences in this universe don't forgive a lack of intensity from their actors.

In 2025, the actress's schedule included filming new episodes in Toronto under strict security measures to prevent leaks. The production of Gen V handles budgets that exceed $15 million per episode.
