Max Lloyd-Jones entered popular culture without anyone seeing his face.
In 2020, he played the body of a young Luke Skywalker for the end of season two of The Mandalorian. It was a job of technical precision in which his physique served as the basis for applying digital de-aging technology to the face of Mark Hamill. The actor had to replicate gestures recorded decades earlier so the illusion would work on screen.
And he pulled it off under absolute secrecy that lasted for months.
Before this technological milestone, he already knew the ins and outs of major franchises. In 2017, he took part in War for the Planet of the Apes under the direction of Matt Reeves. There, he played Blue through motion capture. That shoot forced him to master physical language over dialogue and gave him a deep understanding of the inner workings of high-budget, visual effects-driven productions.
His professional career began long before he stepped into the George Lucas universe. In 2005, he starred in The Sandlot 2, bringing David Durango to life in a production that aimed to capitalize on the nostalgia of the 1990s original. That experience in Vancouver defined his profile as an actor able to move between family films and fast-paced TV productions.
On American television, he found a steady haven for years. He appeared in series such as Switched at Birth in 2013 and When Calls the Heart starting in 2014, playing Tom Thornton. These are traditional roles that contrast with his later move into more technically complex science fiction.
But his relationship with Lucasfilm did not end with the Jedi's digital cameo. In 2022, he put on an X-Wing pilot helmet to play Lieutenant Reed in episode five of The Book of Boba Fett. This time, he showed his real face on camera. It was a symbolic reward after years of working in the shadows of special effects and CGI.
And his bet on streaming is what truly cemented his career.
In 2023, he joined the cast of The Night Agent for Netflix, taking on the role of Cisco. The series was shot mainly in Vancouver, taking advantage of the area's tax incentives and the actor's familiarity with Canadian terrain since his early days. This project strengthened his presence in suspense productions that demand constant physical preparation for action scenes.
Lloyd-Jones keeps his residence in Los Angeles to handle auditions for the major studios. The production of The Night Agent confirmed his renewal for a second season of episodes filmed during 2024.
