Filming Nonstop in Istanbul

Miray Daner stepped onto her first television set at the age of seven. There was no artistic epiphany or chance discovery at a shopping mall; instead, she entered Istanbul's advertising machine directly through commercials. In 2009, she landed her first long-running role in the series Papatyam, playing Gonca across 121 episodes. This early experience taught her the rhythms of the Turkish industry before she finished primary school.

Before she turned fifteen, she was already handling the demands of a daily production schedule. In 2013, she joined the cast of Medcezir, the Turkish adaptation of the American series The O.C., playing Beren Beylice. That project served as a massive showcase. But her character was still a secondary teenager living in the shadow of the main leads.

The Turkish industry rarely forgives the transition from child star to adult actress.

In 2016, filming began on Vatanim Sensin, and with it came an absolute change of register. She played Hilal, a young patriot in occupied Smyrna in the early 20th century. The script demanded a dramatic weight her earlier work had not explored. And the audience response was immediate. The on-screen chemistry with the actor Boran Kuzum sparked a fan phenomenon that crossed Turkey's borders and gained strong traction in European and Latin American markets.

The Move to Streaming

In 2018, she appeared in The Protector (Hakan: Muhafiz), Netflix's first original production in Turkey. It was a strategic move away from free-to-air television and its sixteen-hour shooting days. But the project that truly redefined her career on digital platforms was As the Crow Flies (Kus Ucusu), released in 2022.

In this drama, she plays Asli Tuna, a young Gen Z intern who uses dirty tactics to climb the ranks at a news desk. The character is cold, calculating, and lacks the heroic morality of her previous roles. The series reached the number one spot on the most-watched lists in France, Germany, and Brazil during its first weeks on air. The production secured three full seasons, filmed back to back between 2022 and 2023.

The result was definitive international recognition.

Off camera, she keeps a low profile that contrasts with her status as a celebrity. She is a cousin of actor Aras Bulut Iynemli, but she has always avoided relying on the family name to land contracts. In 2023, she starred in the film Hayat by director Zeki Demirkubuz, a filmmaker known for his raw style far removed from the conventional commercial circuit. The feature follows a young woman who runs away from home to avoid a forced marriage and ends up facing urban loneliness.

And the artistic risk of working with Demirkubuz paid off technically.

The film Hayat had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. Months later, Turkey's selection committee chose this film to represent the country at the 96th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Miray Daner ended that year by filming the series Hudutsuz Sevda, a revenge drama in which she plays Zeynep Leto. The series was shot in the Black Sea region with a budget of several million lira per episode.
