Molly Kunz was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up surrounded by a calm that has little to do with the commercial film industry. Her training didn't begin at acting schools in Los Angeles but on the local stages of her hometown. There she learned that restraint is often more effective than histrionics.

In 2011, she took part in The Wise Kids. It was a quiet debut, but enough for casting directors to notice her ability to convey tension without needing to shout. The film made its way through the independent circuit and served as her calling card in an industry that still didn't know where to place her.

And it worked.

Steve McQueen called her in for a small role in Widows in 2018. She played Siobhan, and although her screen time was limited, she shared the screen with Viola Davis. That shoot taught her that silence can weigh more than dialogue in an auteur heist film. McQueen is known for his technical rigor, and Kunz responded with a restraint that caught the attention of film critics.

In 2021, she spent months on a reserve in Canada filming The Wolf and the Lion. The production required her to live alongside real animals so that the bond on screen would feel authentic. The film grossed nearly $15 million in the international market despite the logistical restrictions of the time.

Kunz had to learn to read the body language of a wolf and a lion before she could start filming her lines.

The Transition to Big-Budget Television

In 2017, she had a brief appearance in The Post under the direction of Steven Spielberg. Not every actor can say they've worked with the most influential directors of their generation before turning thirty. But Kunz tends to avoid long promotional interviews and prefers to talk about the technical processes on set.

She joined the cast of The Night Agent in 2023 to play Sarah Miller. The Netflix series marked a shift toward pure action thriller, where physicality was the top priority. The show reached No. 1 in 93 countries during its first week on air, and that changed her global visibility overnight.

Kunz keeps a low profile off set.

Because she isn't interested in fame for its own sake. So she chooses her projects based on filming location or the complexity of the crew. In 2024, she took part in Ordinary Angels, playing Kelly. The film was shot mainly in Winnipeg with an estimated budget of $13 million.
