Rob Yang isn't the kind of actor who seeks easy applause in the center of the frame.
His career is defined by an almost surgical restraint that broke out in 2018. That's when he played Lawrence Yee in Succession. That character was the founder of Vaulter and represented the clash between the new economy and the old money of the Roy family.
No one handles silence like him.
That performance got him out of the anonymity of unnamed supporting roles. But his training goes back much further. Yang was born in Chicago and honed his craft in the theater scene before breaking into television with small parts in Law & Order and Bored to Death.
In 2016, he took part in The Americans, playing Don Seong. That role already showed his ability to convey tension without raising his voice. Because Yang understands that on-screen power lies in what isn't said.
Television is his natural habitat.
In 2021, he joined the cast of American Rust as deputy Steve Novick. He traded impeccably tailored suits for the uniforms of a Pennsylvania hit hard by the economic crisis. And he did it without losing that outsider's air of someone who seems to know more than the protagonist.
But film has also claimed his presence for specific roles. In 2022, he joined the cast of The Menu under director Mark Mylod. There he played Bryce (one of the tech-bro clients suffering through the tasting menu at Ralph Fiennes).
It was an ensemble effort where his body language said as much as his short lines.
So by the time 2023 came around and Rabbit Hole premiered, his status had already changed. In this espionage series, he shared the screen with Kiefer Sutherland, playing Edward Homm. He's an actor who makes his co-stars better because he doesn't compete for the room's attention.
In 2024, he filmed his scenes for the series Zero Day on location in New York. The production contract called for twelve-hour outdoor shooting days during the winter months.
