Shiori Mikami was born in Aomori Prefecture in 1989. Her move to Tokyo was anything but poetic, as she simply followed the strict protocol of Aoni Production's talent school. In 2008, she landed her first credited role in Shugo Chara!, and from that point on her name began appearing in the casts of major studios.
The Japanese seiyuu industry runs with military-like precision that leaves no room for technical errors. Mikami understood early on that the voice is a physical tool, not a mere emotional embellishment. But her true breakthrough came in 2011 when she played Akari Akaza in YuruYuri.
That work earned her the Best New Actress award at the 6th Seiyu Awards in 2012.
And the gamble paid off.
That award put to rest doubts about her ability to lead long-running projects. Before turning twenty-five, she had already worked on Hyōka and Ixion Saga DT, proving her range could adapt to absurd comedy or school drama without losing her identity. In 2013, she signed the contract that would define her international reach over the following decade.
The premiere of Attack on Titan in 2013 put Mikami behind the microphone to bring Krista Lenz to life. At first, the character seemed to fit the usual mold of Japanese animation. But the plot development in the third season, which aired in 2018, called for a complete shift in tone toward the coldness and political weight of Historia Reiss.
Mikami recorded those sessions with a restraint that surprised sound directors. The evolution from Krista to Historia wasn't just a name change but a restructuring of her vocal range. As a result, the actress had to give up bright high notes and find a drier, more authoritative tone.
Nine years of continuous work in a single franchise allowed her to refine nuances that few actresses of her generation ever reach.
In 2023, she wrapped up her involvement in the franchise after the final episodes of Attack on Titan: The Final Season premiered. Throughout that period, she balanced television with big-budget video games such as Granblue Fantasy, where she voices Lampara. Her schedule has never had gaps since she entered her thirties.
Mikami doesn't seek unnecessary media exposure outside the official events of her series. In 2024, she took on the challenge of voicing Mey Mey in Wonderful Precure!, a project that demands exhausting vocal energy. Roles like this can wear out the vocal cords without elite technical training.
And she has it.
Her relationship with the agency Aoni Production has remained solid after more than fifteen years in the business. In Japan, loyalty to a talent agency is often synonymous with smart career management and no financial surprises. Mikami has avoided scandals and long breaks for health reasons, which have affected other professionals in the industry.
The actress still lives in Tokyo and keeps a low profile on personal social media. In 2024, her per-episode fee ranked among the highest on the pay scale set by the actors' association. Her current contract with Toei Animation for the Precure franchise guarantees her presence in the recording studios throughout the entire annual production cycle.
