Stephanie Bennett

Stephanie Bennett learned to move before she learned to speak in front of a camera. Her training in classical and contemporary dance gave her a physical discipline that ended up shaping her acting style. There was no lucky discovery in a Vancouver café. There were years of technique and quiet auditions before landing her first supporting roles in the Canadian industry.

In 2010, she appeared in the TV movie The Odds. It was a small role, but it helped her understand the rhythm of professional shoots. Soon after, the local industry was quick to call her back. Over the following years, she took part in genre projects such as Grave Encounters 2 in 2012, where she experienced low-budget horror filmmaking.

Dance gave her the stamina needed for fourteen-hour workdays.

In 2015, she played Snow White in the Disney production Descendants. Although the weight of the plot rested on the younger actors, her presence in a franchise of that scale gave her international visibility. But it was in 2016 that her name began to catch fire among fans of television fantasy.

Her Breakthrough in Fantasy

Her entry into the series Shadowhunters in 2016 as Lydia Branwell was a turning point. The character does not appear in Cassandra Clare's original books (she was created specifically for television), which gave her complete freedom to build her from scratch. Bennett played a strong, pragmatic woman who broke away from the show's usual archetypes.

Fans of the series embraced the character right away.

That same year, she worked on the second season of The Romeo Section. In this espionage drama, she played Dee, a role that demanded a level of emotional restraint very different from the flashiness of special effects. Bennett has always preferred to balance the glitz of big productions with grittier, more realistic stories.

In 2017, she joined the cast of Travelers as Jenny. The science fiction series produced by Netflix allowed her to explore characters with morally ambiguous layers. Her ability to shoot high-intensity emotional scenes without resorting to melodrama became her main working tool on the Vancouver sets.

A Refuge in Fast-Paced Movies

Cable television and streaming platforms found in her a reliable leading lady for romantic comedies. In 2021, she starred in The Nine Kittens of Christmas. Productions like this are usually shot in just fifteen working days and demand extremely fast dialogue memorization.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2022, she led the cast of The Holiday Sitter, one of Hallmark's first holiday movies to center on a same-sex romantic lead couple. Bennett played Sam Walker in a storyline designed to normalize diversity on a traditionally conservative network. The shoot took place entirely on location in British Columbia during the winter months.

In 2024, she joined the police drama Allegiance as Keira Spence. The series focuses on the justice system and police corruption in Surrey, Canada. Bennett shares the screen with Supinder Wraich and Enrico Colantoni in a drama that steers clear of the visual gimmicks of her earlier work in the fantasy genre.

The production of the first season of Allegiance in 2024 had a tight budget and a shooting schedule that prioritized natural outdoor locations in the Langley area.
