A stranger signing as Fermat invites several people to a gathering of the country's finest mathematicians. To accept, each must solve a math problem. Whoever sends the correct solution receives a pseudonym named after a famous mathematician or philosopher and a promise not to reveal their true identity. The chosen guests arrive at a house with the promise of solving a great puzzle, not yet imagining what awaits them inside. Among them are three mathematicians and an inventor, who don't know each other. When the host gathers them in a closed room, they begin to wonder who called them there and why.

Trivia about Fermat's Room

A scene with a broken PDA shows the message "Number Error" followed by the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42, the same ones from the series Lost.

The three songs heard in the film are by the Granada band Los Planetas, according to the production profile on Spanish Wikipedia.

On its opening weekend in Spain, the film earned about $284,000.

The film won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 17th Málaga International Film Festival.

The Shrinking Room was built to physically shrink during filming. The mechanism moved all four walls at once and caused fainting spells, anxiety attacks and accidents.

To plan each sequence, the team first built a scale model and shot with two crossed cameras, using a method inspired by the series 24.

The film was sold to 30 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, despite being conceived as a production with few elements, five actors and a very limited budget.

An accident that happened during filming, while the cameras kept rolling, ended up being included in the film's final cut.
