Anna and her husband George arrive at their lakeside summer house with their ten-year-old son Georgie. They want to unplug from work and enjoy a few peaceful days as a family. Directed by Michael Haneke, the film stars Naomi Watts and Tim Roth. As soon as they settle in, a very polite young man knocks on the door, saying he knows the neighbors. He is accompanied by another equally courteous boy, who asks for a few eggs. The visitors' manners seem strange, and the calm of the house begins to crack.

Trivia about Funny Games

Haneke wanted to set the film in the United States, but for practical reasons he had to set the original 1997 version in Austria.

It was a box office disappointment, earning slightly more than half of its 15 million dollar budget.

The music in the opening and closing credits is "Bonehead" by the band Naked City, featured on the album Torture Garden.

The Times of London ranked it number 25 on its list of the 100 worst movies of 2008, calling it "art-house torture porn."

It is the only Haneke film that did not premiere at Cannes, but at festivals such as London and Sundance.

Michael Haneke agreed to direct the remake on one condition: that Naomi Watts play the lead role. He explained that he probably wouldn't have made the film if she had turned down the project.

Brady Corbet had to insist on getting the role of one of the attackers because the casting team considered him too young and thin; he later said he 'begged' them to see him.

The remake was shot almost shot for shot relative to the 1997 original, with the script translated directly into English and no significant changes to the structure.
