Synopsis of Boardwalk Empire

Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition era of the 1920s. Alcohol sales are banned, but the city thrives outside the law thanks to Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, the county treasurer and the most powerful political figure in the area. Nucky is half politician and half gangster. He maintains deals with mobsters from New York and Chicago, doles out favors, and moves between legality and liquor smuggling. His goal is to hold on to that power and keep profiting from the liquor trade. But federal agents begin to take notice of what is happening in the city, and the balance he has built is at risk. The series is created by Terence Winter, airs on HBO, and stars Steve Buscemi.

Trivia about Boardwalk Empire

Terence Winter wanted a series set in the 1920s because he believed that era had not been well explored before. For that reason, he adapted only the part of the book dealing with Prohibition.
A budget of 50 million dollars was discussed for the series, but the final cost of the pilot episode came to around 18 million.
Winter said Scorsese drew actors in like a magnet, and that this is why he set out to write strong roles for them.
Winter aimed to move away from the real Nucky. He stated that if they had wanted an actor who resembled him, they would have chosen Jim Gandolfini.
The opening title uses “Straight Up and Down” by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, a choice by Winter to convey a sense of the unexpected.
The soundtrack won the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media at the 54th annual ceremony.
HBO announced the second season just two days after the first season premiered.
The pilot drew 4.81 million viewers during its original broadcast and was HBO's biggest series premiere since the Deadwood pilot.
