Synopsis of Nine Perfect Strangers

Nine strangers arrive at Tranquillum House, a health and wellness center located in the fictional town of Cabrillo, California. They sign up for a ten-day retreat that promises to transform them and heal their wounds. The compound, run by Masha, a Russian hostess with an enigmatic personality, is not what it seems. The guests, who barely know one another, begin to uncover secrets about each other and about the owner of the place herself. The series, created by David E. Kelley and John-Henry Butterworth, streams on Hulu and stars Nicole Kidman as Masha. Each visitor arrives with their own reasons and burdens, and the retreat will test both their expectations and their trust in those around them.

Trivia about Nine Perfect Strangers

Nicole Kidman met most of the other nine cast members just as they filmed their first scene together, and stayed in the role of Masha throughout the production.

Nicole Kidman sometimes kept the accent even when not filming, a detail that Henry Golding revealed when confirming the end of filming for season two.

The actors had to complete fourteen days of quarantine in the arrival city in Australia due to COVID-19 rules before starting to film in Byron Bay.

The series premiere was the most-watched Hulu original up to that point, a fact that was revealed on August 24, 2021.

Although it was conceived as a limited series, its renewal for a second season was announced in June 2023.

Season two premiered on May 21, 2025 with two opening episodes, followed by one new episode per week.
