This summer, we invite you to Portorosso.

Luca Paguro is a thirteen-year-old sea monster boy who lives on the coast of Portorosso, a town on the Italian Riviera in the 1950s. His daily chore is looking after his family's goatfish, but his parents forbid him from going near the surface, which they consider dangerous. One day he meets Alberto Scorfano, another sea monster his age who lives alone in an abandoned lighthouse. Alberto shows him how they turn into humans when they leave the water, and Luca starts feeling a curiosity that is harder and harder to contain. The film is directed by Enrico Casarosa, and Jacob Tremblay voices the lead character.

Trivia about Luca

According to Casarosa, in early drafts Pixar's creative director, John Lasseter, wanted a climax featuring a giant kraken threatening the village.
Disney announced on March 23, 2021 that the film's theatrical release was canceled; it was launched worldwide on Disney+ instead.
During the research trip, art director Deanna Marsigliese noticed the curious locals watching them and decided to incorporate them into the character design.
The soundtrack includes songs by Mina, Edoardo Bennato, Gianni Morandi, Rita Pavone and Quartetto Cetra, along with excerpts from operas by Puccini and Rossini.
