Synopsis of The Last Man on Earth

Year 2020. A deadly virus has swept across the planet, and Phil Miller, played by Will Forte, appears to be the only survivor in the United States. He travels the country in his RV searching for other people and paints signs on the roads that read "I live in Tucson," the city where he was born, hoping someone will see them and come find him. After months of loneliness, Phil finds no one and decides to end his life. Just before he does, Carol Pilbasian, played by Kristen Schaal, an eccentric and loud woman, appears. The series, created by Forte himself, airs on FOX and follows a man who has to learn to live with company in an almost empty world.

Trivia about The Last Man on Earth

The idea came from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who first thought of a feature film before bringing the premise to Will Forte.
The lead character takes his name from the two executive producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, so Phil Tandy Miller combines their last names and first name.
According to Christopher Miller, the series has no zombies, even though the planet has been nearly emptied out by a virus.
Principal photography took place at a 20th Century Fox studio located in Chatsworth, California.
Shooting the series was difficult, because the crew had to keep silence and avoid picking up the sound of distant traffic.
The one-hour premiere drew 5.75 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among adults aged 18 to 49, making it the most-watched streaming series of the night in that demographic.
FOX canceled the series in May 2018, four days after the fourth season finale, so a fifth season never came to be.
Will Forte explained in 2018 that the fifth season would have revealed that the main group were asymptomatic carriers of the virus and could infect isolated survivors.
