Parallel Mothers

Janis Martínez is a photographer working on a photo shoot with Arturo, a renowned forensic anthropologist who leads a team dedicated to locating and identifying victims of Francoist executions during and after the Spanish Civil War. Janis asks him whether his foundation could excavate a mass grave in her hometown, where her great-grandfather and other men were killed and buried during the White Terror, the period of political repression that followed the war. Meanwhile, Janis is about to give birth at a hospital in Madrid. There she meets Ana, a very young woman who is also about to give birth that same day and experiences motherhood with anxiety.
