Rosemary Woodhouse is a young housewife married to Guy, a stage actor. The couple moves into the Bramford House, an old apartment building in New York with a sinister reputation because of the past residents it has housed. Guy and Rosemary want to start a family and have chosen a newly vacant apartment to begin their life together. Their friend Hutch warns them about the building's dark past, tied to witchcraft and murder, but the couple ignores him and decides to stay. The film is directed and written by Roman Polanski, and stars Mia Farrow as Rosemary and John Cassavetes as Guy.

Trivia about Rosemary's Baby

Polanski often did as many as fifty takes of a single shot, and the production ended up 400,000 dollars over budget, according to the source.
To film the scene in which Rosemary staggers into traffic, Polanski himself operated the handheld camera, because he was the only one willing to do it.
The voice that answers the phone when Rosemary calls Donald Baumgart belongs to Tony Curtis, who is not credited.
The owners of the Dakota building did not allow filming inside, so its exterior facades were used only for the exterior shots of the Bramford House.

  • Awful things happen in every apartment house.
  • [about having sex with Rosemary while she was passed out] It was kinda fun in a necrophile sort of way.
  • You're not on one of those Zen diets, are you? Pregnant women gain weight, they don't lose it.
  • Laura-Louise: [referring to the tannis-root charm] You'll get used to the smell before you know it.
  • This is no dream, this is really happening!
  • Rosemary's friend: [about Dr. Sapirstein] He sounds like a sadistic nut... Pain like that is a warning that something isn't right. Go see Dr. Hill. Go see anybody besides that... nut. You can't go on suffering like this.
