Synopsis of Bewitched

Darrin Stephens is a young advertising executive who falls in love with Samantha, a sweet and charming young woman. They get married, and during their honeymoon she reveals that she is a witch, a secret that changes their life as a couple from that moment on. They live in a residential neighborhood in the United States in the 1960s, and Darrin wants his wife to give up magic at home so they can lead an ordinary life. However, Endora, Samantha's mother, does not accept that her daughter has married a mortal and makes it her mission to complicate Darrin's life. Between the couple's attempts at normalcy and the meddling of her family, every conflict turns into a zany situation.

Trivia about Bewitched

The creator, Sol Saks, wrote the pilot but did not work on the series again after that episode.

In its first season, the series was the number one program on ABC and the highest-rated comedy across the three networks.

In 2005, TV Land unveiled a statue of Samantha in Salem to celebrate the show's 40 anniversary.

Alice Pearce posthumously won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress for playing Gladys Kravitz.

For the scenes in which Samantha and Serena appear together, they used Melody McCord, Montgomery's body double.

The series inspired I Dream of Jeannie, its rival on NBC, which was produced at the same studio, Screen Gems.

Dick York left the series during the fifth season due to the severe back problems he had suffered since an accident, and Dick Sargent took over the role of Darrin in the sixth.

Five years after the end of "Bewitched," ABC produced "Tabitha," a spin-off centered on Samantha and Darrin's daughter, but the series lasted only one season in 1977.
