Synopsis of The Munsters

The Munsters lives at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, in the fictional town of Mockingbird Heights, California. The family members are clearly strange, but they see themselves as a fairly typical hardworking family of the 1960s. Herman, the father, is the only one with a steady paycheck, while Lily and Grandpa occasionally try to make money, though their schemes never last long. The household also includes Eddie, the son, and Marilyn, Lily's niece, who is the only one who doesn't fit the monstrous mold of the others. The family sitcom was created by Chris Hayward, Bob Mosher and Allan Burns and aired on CBS. Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo and Al Lewis lead the cast of a series that plays on the gap between what the family is and what it believes itself to be.

Trivia about The Munsters

The idea of a family of comedic monsters was first pitched to Universal Studios by animator Bob Clampett, who developed it as an animated series between 1943 and 1945.
Allan Burns acknowledged that the team borrowed the idea from the Charles Addams cartoons published in The New Yorker, and that Universal kept its own characters from Frankenstein and Dracula.
Before the series, MCA Television shot a live-action color pilot titled "My Fair Munster" for CBS in 1964.
The first actor to play Eddie was Nate Derman, who was replaced by Butch Patrick for the show's third pilot.
Butch Patrick blamed the show's cancellation on Batman, the ABC series, which he claimed took away their ratings.
In 1965, the show was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Television Series, but it lost to The Rogues.
The theme song lyrics, written by Bob Mosher, were never broadcast on CBS, and the instrumental music was nominated for a Grammy in 1965.
The single "Dragula" by Rob Zombie, released in 1998, takes its title from the DRAG-U-LA dragster that Grandpa drives on the show.
