Candyman

At the University of Chicago, graduate student Helen Lyle becomes aware of the prevailing superstition surrounding the legend of Candyman (a ghost with a hook for a hand who appears if his name is said five times in a mirror) among the residents of Cabrini in Chicago's Green housing project. The professor, hearing about Helen's research, explains the historical basis for the legend and details how Candyman is believed to be the vengeful spirit of a slave who was mutilated by a frenzied mob after being accused of assaulting a white woman. When Helen tests her intellectual confidence by reciting Candyman's name five times, she sets in motion an inevitable chain of supernatural events, culminating in a series of horrific murders in which Helen holds the murder weapon. Although she is captured by the police, it becomes clear to Helen that Candyman is guiding her destiny.
