Synopsis of Spider-Man: The New Animated Series

Following the events of the 2002 movie, Peter Parker begins his studies at Empire State University alongside Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn. Peter works as a photographer for the Daily Bugle, where editor J. Jonah Jameson never misses a chance to attack Spider-Man and put a political spin on his actions. Between classes, exams and a relationship with Mary Jane that moves in fits and starts, Peter tries to balance his life as a student with his life as a superhero, a balance that becomes harder and harder to maintain. The series, created by Brian Michael Bendis, Marsha Griffin and Morgan Gendel, airs on MTV and stars Neil Patrick Harris as Peter.

Trivia about Spider-Man: The New Animated Series

The series was originally set to adapt Brian Michael Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man comics, but after the success of the Sam Raimi movie, it was redirected to continue its storyline.
Michael Rosenbaum was approached for the lead role but never came in to audition.
The producers found that MTV's lower standards gave them more creative freedom than usual for a Saturday morning cartoon.
Peter was going to wear looser clothing to hide his superhero physique, but CGI budget problems meant his outfits couldn't have any folds.
Aunt May does not appear in the series, except in a photo in Peter's bedroom, because MTV executives feared that older characters would turn away their young audience.
The series was canceled after 13 episodes, reportedly due to low ratings. Director Brandon Vietti said that, had it continued, it would have featured the villains Mysterio, Vulture and more, including Kraven.
In 2004, the series was nominated for an Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Television Production.
Neil Patrick Harris, Lisa Loeb and Ian Ziering were announced as the main voice cast in May 2002, more than a year before the series premiered.
