The Promised Land

In 1755, the impoverished Captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out to conquer the harsh, inhospitable Danish moors with a seemingly impossible goal: to build a colony in the king's name. In return, he will receive a real name he desperately longs for. However, the only ruler of the area, the ruthless Frederik de Schinkel, arrogantly believes that the land belongs to him. When de Schinkel realizes that his maid Ann Barbara and her servile husband have fled to take refuge with Kahlen, the privileged and resentful ruler swears revenge and promises to do everything in his power to drive the captain away. But Kahlen refuses to be intimidated and embarks on a battle so unequal that it will put at risk not only his life, but also the family of marginalized people he has gathered around him.
