Synopsis of Boys Over Flowers

In Seoul, the daughter of a dry cleaner named Geum Jan-di sees her life change overnight. After stopping a student from jumping off the rooftop of Shinhwa High, a school reserved for the children of South Korea's most powerful families, the press makes the feat front-page news, and the chairwoman of the Shinhwa Group offers her a scholarship to study there. Inside the school, she meets Gu Jun-pyo, heir to the Shinhwa Group and leader of the F4, the most influential clique at the school, who wields his power through humiliation. Jan-di refuses to submit to that system, and the clash between them kicks off the series, which airs on KBS2 and stars Koo Hye-sun and Lee Min-ho.

Trivia about Boys Over Flowers

According to the head writer, Yoon Yi-ryun, Yoon Ji-hoo was originally the drama's lead, which is why he had the most screen time alongside Jan-di.

Park Shin-hye passed the auditions for the role of Jan-di, but she was turned down at the last minute for seeming like a wealthy girl.

The shooting locations in Korea became tourist attractions, such as the Damyang Dynasty Country Club in South Jeolla Province.

The Seoul branch of the YWCA criticized the series for being an example of materialism and the Cinderella complex.

The series is credited with launching the career of Lee Min-ho, who had previously appeared in a few low-budget school dramas.

"Boys Over Flowers" drew a 20% audience rating after just three episodes and maintained ratings above 30% from the tenth episode onward, according to figures published during its broadcast.

Episode 16 reached a 33.2% national audience share and ranked first in its time slot, according to ratings from TNS Media Korea.

Lee Min-ho won the Best New Actor (TV) award at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2009 for their performance in the series.
