Synopsis of House of David

It is the year 1000 BC in the Kingdom of Israel. David is a young shepherd from Bethlehem, of the tribe of Judah, who tends flocks and writes songs on his lyre. One day the prophet Samuel anoints him as the future king, because Saul, the reigning monarch, is deteriorating mentally and can no longer hold on to his leadership. Now David must make his way to the throne, and along the way he will face obstacles and opportunities tied to his faith and his family and personal bonds. Created by Jon Erwin for Amazon Prime Video, the series follows him up to his confrontation with the Philistine giant Goliath. Michael Iskander plays David and Ali Suliman plays Saul.

Trivia about House of David

Jon Erwin was 16 years old when he traveled to Israel with his father and visited King David's tomb in Jerusalem, which inspired him to adapt his story for the screen.

Michael Iskander credits his years of shot put and discus throwing in high school with helping him during the casting audition. It was his first major role as an actor.

Martyn Ford is 2.03 meters tall and weighs about 145 kilograms, but in the series he appears to be 2.97 meters tall thanks to digital effects.

700 people worked on the production, and the series was filmed mainly in Greece, with some additional scenes in the Canadian province of Alberta.

For the sequence showing Goliath's origins, generative AI was combined with traditional special effects. Variety reported 72 shots using artificial intelligence in the first season.

The series drew 22 million viewers in its first 17 days in the United States, and Amazon Prime Video then renewed it for a second season.

The third season of «House of David» will be the last, and production began in Greece in September 2026, although no release date has been announced yet.
