Rubius is one of one hundred players chosen to test the ORV glasses, an experimental virtual reality device dedicated to video games. Connected directly to the brain, the glasses transport users into a gaming universe where everything feels real and responds to their actions. What Rubius does not realize is that this journey is part of a plan devised by the villain Trollmask, who is holding all one hundred participants captive inside this virtual world. His goal is for them to witness his victory over Rubius. Created by El Rubius and aired on Movistar+, the series follows the protagonist's struggle to understand what is happening and confront this adversary in a setting where video games come to life.

Trivia about Virtual Hero: La Serie

The series was produced by Motion Pictures Studio in Barcelona and Jaruyi Studio in Seoul, which worked together on its creation.

On October 3, 2018, El Rubius published a documentary on its YouTube channel about the creation of the series, titled "De Rubén a Rubius: el viaje de un Virtual Hero."

During the airing of its first five episodes, the series averaged 3000 viewers and a 0.02% audience share, making it the least-watched show on Movistar+.

In September 2020, Movistar+ announced that the series would not be renewed after its two seasons.

El Rubius took part in choosing the Korean studio, the stories and the dubbing of his character, whose dialogue he improvised to preserve his way of speaking.

Each episode required roughly one month of pre-production, three months of animation, and another month of post-production with music.

The second season was a finalist at the 2020 New York Festivals TV&Film Awards in the animation category.

The renewal for a second season was announced in August 2019 and added six episodes, compared with twelve in the first season.
