Robotech

In 1999, an alien combat fortress crash-lands on an island in the South Pacific. Over the following decade, humanity rebuilds and adapts it using the extraterrestrial technology found on board, robotechnology, with which it manufactures fighters capable of transforming into giant robots. Rick Hunter, a civilian pilot, is drawn into the military forces as a combat pilot. Alongside him are Lisa Hayes, first officer of the SDF-1, and Lynn Minmei, a young woman who aspires to become a show business star. When the fortress is ready for takeoff, the aliens it belongs to finally discover where it is.
