Synopsis of Yu Yu Hakusho

Yusuke Urameshi is fourteen years old and a bit of a delinquent from the city. One day he is hit by a car while trying to save a little boy. His death was not planned, so he belongs neither in Heaven nor in Hell, and he remains in the world of the living as a spirit. Botan offers him a test that would allow him to return to life. Yusuke passes it and receives a mission: to work as a spirit detective, solving supernatural cases with powers he has not yet fully mastered. The series, aired by Fuji Television and based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, moves between the Spirit World and Yusuke's everyday life, following the clash between his new duties and his old life.

Trivia about Yu Yu Hakusho

The series was voted best anime of the year at the Animage Anime Grand Prix awards in 1994 and 1995, and it placed second in 1993, behind only Sailor Moon.
When adapting the manga, the team considered casting either Hiei or Kurama as the female member of the cast, and the network's producer decided on Kurama because of his androgynous look.
Funimation President Gen Fukunaga said the series came out of nowhere and drew huge audiences, just slightly below those of Dragon Ball Z.
According to Nielsen, the series was among the seven Cartoon Network broadcasts with the best ratings in the top 111 during its Toonami debut in May 2003.
The soundtrack was composed by Yusuke Honma, and the opening theme is "Hohoemi no Bakudan," performed by Matsuko Mawatari, along with five closing themes.
In the Filipino version, the voice actors believed Kurama was a female character and named him Denise, because they had no reliable information about the series.
The 112-episode TV series spawned two movies, a compilation of OVAs, several video games, toys and other merchandise after its broadcast on Fuji TV.
The animated adaptation changed some levels of violence and profanity from the manga, and also introduced minor variations in the art style.
