Andi Matichak walked into the casting office for Halloween in 2018 with a modeling agency tag still attached to her file. She wasn't looking to be a pretty face in a standard horror flick. She wanted the role of Allyson Nelson because she understood that surviving Michael Myers demanded a physical toughness that few actresses of her generation were willing to show on screen.
Her training didn't come from elite drama schools. Before stepping onto a professional set, Matichak worked in the fashion world, and that gave her a spartan discipline. In 2013, she made her debut with a tiny role in the series 666 Park Avenue. It was a brief step, but it was enough to convince her that her future was in acting and not on the runways of New York.
And the gamble paid off.
During the filming of the first installment of the new Halloween trilogy in 2018, the actress decided to perform most of her stunt scenes herself. Director David Gordon Green wanted a naturalness that stunt doubles can't deliver. Audiences can sense real fear when an actress runs through a real forest in freezing shooting conditions.
The trilogy was completed with Halloween Kills in 2021 and Halloween Ends in 2022. Over those four years, Matichak went from being an unknown to becoming the generational successor to Jamie Lee Curtis. But she avoided being typecast as the eternal victim. In 2021, she starred in Son, a psychological horror film that explored motherhood from a much darker and less commercial angle.
Many actors wait for the phone to ring with an offer from a major studio. Matichak decided to change that dynamic early on. In 2024, she got involved in producing the film Run, a project where, in addition to acting, she made decisions about the narrative and the tone of the edit. That shift toward production reflects a need to control her own professional image.
But the industry has its own timing, and it isn't always kind. After the horror saga ended in 2022, the actress sought out projects far removed from screaming and blood. She appeared in the series Blue Bloods and other TV projects where the weight fell on dialogue rather than physical chase scenes. Her strategy was to diversify her screen presence and avoid the oblivion that often follows major franchises.
And she did it without making a fuss.
Her approach to work is quiet and technical. Before filming, she reads the script looking for logical gaps in her character so she can suggest changes to directors. This attitude has earned her the respect of filmmakers who want active collaborators, not simple order-takers. On the set of Foxhole in 2021, she proved she could carry a war movie with a tight budget and an ensemble cast.
The actress keeps a careful distance from the Los Angeles social events circuit. She prefers to talk about camera lenses or lighting techniques rather than her private life. In 2024, the film Run completed its post-production with a small technical crew and a budget that didn't exceed five million dollars. The final edit of that film was finished at a Toronto sound studio after fourteen weeks of intensive work.
