Ashley Scott didn't want to be a model forever. By the late nineties, her face was on runways in Miami and Paris, but she was after something else. In 2001, she landed a small role in A.I. Artificial Intelligence by Steven Spielberg. It was a brief appearance under the name Gigolo Jane.
James Cameron saw her and decided she was a perfect fit for Dark Angel. She played Asha Barlow during the show's second season. That sci-fi production served as an intensive training ground for what came next.
And then the leather jacket arrived.
In 2002, she starred in Birds of Prey, bringing Helena Bertinelli to life. The series lasted only thirteen episodes, but its impact among comic book readers was immediate. Shooting in Los Angeles demanded a level of physical training that Scott had never experienced before in her career.
In 2004, she filmed Walking Tall alongside Dwayne Johnson. Scott played Deni, the girlfriend of the lead character in a hard-hitting action film. The movie earned 57 million dollars worldwide and put her on the radar of major Hollywood studios.
A year later, she dove into the waters of the Bahamas for Into the Blue. She shared the bill with Paul Walker and Jessica Alba in a production that depended entirely on underwater visuals. But the shoot was complicated by rough seas and studio pressure to capture perfect footage in the sunshine.
In 2007, she appeared in The Kingdom. Peter Berg cast her in a supporting role in this political thriller set in Saudi Arabia. Specialized critics praised the film's realism, although Scott had little screen time compared to the male leads.
Box office success wasn't always kind to her.
The series Jericho gave her stability again in 2006. For two seasons, she played Emily Sullivan in an America devastated by nuclear attacks. Fans of the show launched a massive campaign, sending tons of peanuts to CBS to prevent the production from being canceled.
Scott kept working steadily in the made-for-TV movie circuit throughout the following decade. In 2019, she reprised her Huntress character for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover on The CW. It was a move aimed at fans who remembered her work seventeen years earlier.
She took the role purely out of nostalgia.
In 2022, she worked on the thriller The 11th Step and the film Secret Lives of Housewives. For a long time, her career has moved between genre films and independent productions that avoid the noise of the big red carpets. So her profile has stayed low by choice.
She lives in Los Angeles with her two daughters and her husband, Steve Hart. As of 2024, she keeps her home in a quiet area away from Hollywood's main spotlight. The production of her latest independent film had a budget of less than two million dollars.
