Ceci Balagot first stepped onto a soundstage at age seven for a small role on the series ER. She was 2008, and the industry still operated under the rigid codes of linear television. That brief appearance launched a career that avoided the well-worn path of California's child stars.
It was a matter of instinct.
In 2010, they appeared in Desperate Housewives and soon began landing a string of commercial work. The pace of shoots in Los Angeles demanded a discipline that Balagot picked up quickly. But the real surge in work came when major youth content studios noticed their talent for dry comedy.
In 2014, they signed with Disney Channel to play Isadora Smackle in Girl Meets World. The character started out as a recurring presence but gained weight thanks to her acid wit and lack of filter. Balagot stayed on the series until 2017 and shot a total of 38 episodes that brought them massive visibility in the international market.
The shift toward more dramatic projects happened in 2020. In the series Dispatches from Elsewhere, they played Clara and shared the screen with names such as Sally Field and Richard E. Grant. This AMC production allowed Balagot to explore a far more abstract narrative, far removed from the laugh tracks of their earlier years.
Here, critics began to notice that their acting went beyond comic supporting roles. Filming in Philadelphia changed their perception of the craft and of production schedules in auteur cinema.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2022, they took on the role of Frankie Stein in Monster High: The Movie. It was a significant casting decision, since the character was presented as nonbinary, just like Balagot in their private life. Nickelodeon's production aimed to update the franchise for a generation that demanded other identities on screen.
The film was the most-watched children's premiere of the year on cable television. The strong ratings secured an immediate sequel, which was planned for the following year.
In 2023, they reprised the role in the sequel Monster High 2. Filming moved to Vancouver and had a bigger budget for visual effects and choreography. Balagot had to sit through three hours of makeup sessions each day to achieve the character's greenish skin tone.
Production wrapped in March of that same year.
Off camera, Balagot keeps a low profile and avoids unnecessary promotional events. In 2024, her name was linked to independent film projects seeking funding on the West Coast. The industry is still watching her moves closely, but without the rush of earlier years.
The international distribution deal for their latest film closed at four million dollars.
