#### Beginnings and Breakthrough on Television

Born in Sumatra, Indonesia, and educated at Council University in Texas, Mahaffey began to stand out on New York stages before making the leap to television. Her first major breakthrough came with the iconic series *Northern Exposure*, where her performance as the hypochondriac Eve earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1992. That role marked the start of a career built on memorable characters in shows that are now part of television history.

Over the years, her face became a fixture in homes around the world thanks to her roles in cult series and major ratings hits. Notable performances include *Desperate Housewives*, where she brought the unsettling Alma Hodge to life, and *Devious Maids*, playing the unforgettable Olivia Rice. Her ability to give humanity to emotionally unstable characters made her the go-to actress for the most demanding casting directors in Hollywood.

#### The Big Screen and Critical Acclaim

Although her television presence has been steady, her film career has left an unforgettable mark. One of the most recent turning points in her movie career was her acclaimed role in *French Exit* (2020), alongside Michelle Pfeiffer. Her performance as Madame Reynard was praised by international critics, highlighting her talent for dry humor and vulnerability, which earned her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards.

In film, Mahaffey has shown that there are no small roles. From commercial comedies like *S.W.A.T.* and *Si fuera fácil*, to more intimate projects, her acting precision adds a unique texture to every frame.
