Synopsis of Northern Exposure
Joel Fleischman is a young New York doctor fresh out of residency. The State of Alaska paid for his medical school in exchange for four years of practice in the state. He expected a modern hospital in Anchorage, but he is assigned to Cicely, a remote, fictional Alaskan town with no other doctors. There, he must care for a neighborhood of eccentric characters. Maurice Minnifield, a former combat pilot and astronaut, is the one who arranged for him to get to town. Joel wants to fulfill his contract and leave as soon as possible, but the isolation, the wilderness and the community's way of life make that difficult. Created by Joshua Brand and John Falsey, the series airs on CBS and centers on the clash between the doctor's rational mindset and a town that lives at its own pace. Rob Morrow stars as the lead.
