Charlotte Vega was born in Madrid in 1994 but grew up in Sitges. Her parents are British, and that cultural duality shaped her understanding of the industry from the start. Before turning eighteen, she already knew her market would not be limited to Spanish borders.
Her professional debut came in 2012 with a supporting role in [REC]³ Genesis. It was a brief introduction to genre cinema. That experience helped her understand the rhythms of a professional shoot before she took on projects with greater media scale.
But mass recognition came in 2014.
That year she starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The film did very well with teen audiences and brought her a level of visibility that she chose to manage carefully. Rather than exploit her image in similar projects, she preferred to look for stories with a darker or more technical tone.
In 2015 she took part in the series Refugees. It was an ambitious production by Atresmedia and the BBC, shot entirely in English in the Sierra de Madrid. That work confirmed that her ability to act in her Anglo-Saxon mother tongue was her greatest competitive asset.
The year 2017 was the busiest of her early career. She worked under Isabel Coixet in The Bookshop and starred in the Gothic horror film The Lodgers. For the latter, she had to spend many hours underwater at an Irish location to film the story's weather-driven scenes.
And the physical effort paid off.
That same 2017, she landed a role in the American production American Assassin. She shared the set with Michael Keaton and Dylan O’Brien in an international espionage plot. She wasn't the lead, but the experience let her see how the machinery of a Hollywood blockbuster works from the inside.
She kept alternating small projects with genre bets. In 2020 she appeared in the Netflix series Warrior Nun. Although her time on Spanish television with Velvet in 2015 gave her stability, her eye was always on shoots that involved travel and international settings.
In 2021 she took the lead in the reboot of Wrong Turn. The film was shot in the forests of Ohio and demanded considerable physical preparation for the action and chase scenes. International critics praised her ability to sustain narrative tension in a hostile, grimy setting.
She wanted to move away from the image of the innocent girl.
During 2022, she shot Burial in Estonia. In this war thriller, she played a Soviet soldier tasked with transporting Hitler's remains through enemy territory. It was a shoot of five weeks in extreme weather conditions and with a tight budget that demanded technical precision.
In 2024, she moved to Australia to take part in The Surfer. On this project she worked alongside Nicolas Cage under the direction of Lorcan Finnegan. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the midnight screenings for its suffocating, psychological atmosphere.
The production of this film cost about fifteen million dollars.
