Dalip Singh Rana worked breaking stones on the roads of Himachal Pradesh before anyone noticed his size. He barely weighed enough to stay on his feet, yet his frame promised something extraordinary. His body was an anomaly that needed thousands of calories a day just to avoid collapsing under its own weight.

In 1993, he joined the Punjab Police. It was a pragmatic decision to put food on the table and secure a steady income in a family of seven brothers. That's where his serious training began.

Local gyms didn't have weights heavy enough for him (they had to be custom-made), and his gym routine became a matter of pride in his unit. Police discipline gave him the structure he needed to turn his sheer size into useful muscle.

The Giant Hollywood Bought in Pieces

Adam Sandler called him in 2005 to take part in The Longest Yard. Singh played Turley, a massive convict who barely spoke but filled every frame with a physicality that recalled the classic villains of 1970s spy movies.

That movie grossed 190 million dollars.

But film was never his absolute priority over the wrestling ring. In 2006 he signed with the WWE and adopted the name The Great Khali to face The Undertaker. The American entertainment industry saw in him a profitable museum piece who worked just as well in prison drama as in absurd comedy.

In 2008, he played Dalip in Get Smart. He shared scenes with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway under the direction of Peter Segal. The writers used his size to create visual gags built on the contrast between him and standard-height actors.

It was a period of intense media activity.

He appeared in MacGruber in 2010. That parody action film let him laugh at his own tough-guy image on camera. Singh always understood that his screen value depended on his ability to intimidate or to be endearing without meaning to.

From Fiction to the Muscle Business

Wear and tear on his knees and back started to take a toll on his movements before 2014. Acromegaly is a condition that doesn't spare anyone as time goes by. So he decided to diversify his income and his public presence beyond the major studios in Los Angeles.

In 2015 he founded Continental Wrestling Entertainment in Jalandhar. His goal was to professionalize the sport in India so that other young people wouldn't have to emigrate with no resources, as he had. The center became a factory of athletes chasing the American dream from Punjab.

Netflix's production Hustle featured him in 2022. In this film produced by LeBron James and starring Adam Sandler, Singh appears briefly in a scene about recruiting international talent. It was a direct nod to their shared past with the comedic actor.

His screen appearances became more selective, focusing on specific cameos that didn't require much physical mobility.

His net worth was estimated at $6 million in 2024. Running his wrestling school and his advertising deals in the Asian market supports a business structure that directly employs more than fifty people.

Dalip Singh Rana has been retired from major international tours for years. He prefers managing his real estate investments and overseeing the training of new heavyweights at his academy in India. His last appearance on a film set was in a cement commercial in 2024.
