Jared Leto arrived on the set of Dallas Buyers Club in 2013 weighing just 110 pounds. It wasn't a strict diet; it was a self-inflicted physical demolition to bring Rayon to life. But that extreme effort earned him an Oscar and a Golden Globe that changed his standing in the industry forever.

Before the awards, he had to sleep on the streets of Los Angeles during his first weeks in the city. In 1994, the series My So-Called Life gave him the push he needed for Hollywood to notice that icy-eyed young man. The method taken to the extreme

To prepare for his role as the Joker in Suicide Squad in 2016, he sent disturbing gifts to his co-stars. Live rats and used objects were part of a psychological game that was not always well received by the crew. But the production kept it secret to fuel the character's mystique.

In 2021, he transformed into Paolo Gucci under layers of latex and an Italian accent that divided international critics. Some saw a caricature, others saw interpretive genius. And his ability to disappear under makeup became his most profitable trademark.

Box office success doesn't always follow risk.

In 2022, he starred in Morbius, a project that suffered constant delays and a frosty reception at the box office. The film grossed $167 million against an estimated budget of 75 million, not counting marketing costs. And despite the online noise, the movie remained a gray spot in his commercial career.

Investments and the return to science fiction

Away from the spotlight, he is known for his work as an investor in Silicon Valley tech companies. He invested in companies like Uber and Airbnb when they were still emerging startups. So his personal fortune doesn't depend exclusively on the contracts he signs with major studios.

In 2025, he led the cast of TRON: Ares under the direction of Joachim Rønning. Filming in Vancouver required grueling physical preparation and the use of cutting-edge motion capture technology. Because the actor prefers complex technical environments where control over the image is absolute.

Creative control is his top priority.

The production of this science fiction sequel had a budget that exceeded $150 million.
